Mayo TD Beverley Flynn has welcomed the decision of Castlebar Town Council to proceed with the construction of the link road between Aldi and St Gerald’s College.
The €4.1m scheme will divert traffic from the McDonald's roundabout to the Newport Road at St Gerald’s College.
Said Deputy Flynn: “The provision of the new link road will be of great help in alleviating traffic congestion at Newtown. Traffic to and from Newport will find it much easier to access the town centre while school traffic will be greatly facilitated.”
Dep Flynn said Castlebar’s increasing traffic volumes reflected the growth of the town as a commercial and shopping centre.
“One of Castlebar’s major attractions for visiting shoppers is the excellent road system and the ease of getting to car parks in the town centre. The new link road will further enhance Castlebar as an accessible convenient shopping hub,” added Dep Flynn.
