Verbals between neighbours led to court appearance

A man complained that his neighbour made comments towards him and threw stones at his home, resulting in the dispute being before Ballinrobe District Court on Friday.

Noel McHugh made complaints to gardaí that Michael Collins, 35 Lui na Greine, Claremorris, on June 23 2006, called him a “mulla head” and told him, “I will get you in town”. On October 8, 2006 Collins asked Mr McHugh: “What ya looking at ya bo**ox?” On October 22 as Mr McHugh was passing Collins’ car, the defendant had a razor in his hand and said to the complainant: “Do you want a shave, you bo**ox?”. Mr McHugh also complained to gardaí that in the early hours of a morning in July 2006, Collins threw stones at his property.

Solicitor Cathy McDarby said that there has been a “history of bad blood between” the two men and that her client, who admits making the comments, has since married. He lived in the UK for a while and is now looking for work as he does not “want to be a drain on society”.

Judge Mary Devins applied the Probation Act.
