Flynn should join the opposition — O’Mahony

Mayo Fine Gael TD John O’Mahony has invited Fianna Fáil’s Beverley Flynn to join the ranks of the opposition in the Dáil when they resume after the summer recess tomorrow. Deputy O’Mahony said Deputy Flynn has in recent days been speaking and acting in the manner of an opposition TD and he said the logical conclusion of her behaviour was to make the walk across the Dáil chamber.

“Deputy Flynn says that she is concerned for the farming community in Mayo and that she is opposed to the decision to exclude new applicants for the REPS 4 scheme. Yet, it’s only a few months ago that Deputy Flynn, along with Deputy Calleary, was voting for cuts in the Farm Waste Management scheme, Installation Aid, and the Young Farmer’s Grant. If Deputy Flynn is so concerned about the future of Mayo farmers she is welcome to join with us in Fine Gael in standing up for the farming community and the people of rural Ireland and Mayo.

“She can’t have it every way and she needs to start making hard decisions. There’s nothing stopping her making that walk across the Dáil floor because if she really wants her remarks to be taken seriously she has to be seen to doing something tangible,” he said.
