Ring calls for farming support schemes to be restored

Mayo Deputy Michael Ring, Fine Gael spokesperson for community, rural, and Gaeltacht affairs, has called on the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food and the Government to reintroduce some of the schemes cut back previously to help support Irish farmers.

“I am calling for the reversal of the Budget cuts in the Disadvantaged Area Payment which is paid to farmers living in the most remote areas,” Dep Ring said. “I am also calling for the reopening of the REPS scheme.

“I am particularly calling for the restoration of the Installation Aid Grant and the Early Retirement Scheme, which encourage young people to enter farming and help in the transfer of family farms to the next generation.” He concluded by saying that the Minister and the Government “reinstate support schemes and avoid any further cutbacks in this sector”.
