The stableford competition last weekend was won by Seamus Holian with a good score of 39. Vinnie Gibbons took second place with a 37 (back nine ) to come second while Joe Monaghan came third also on 37. The ladies’ competition was won by Breege Jennings with a score of 37, one shot ahead of second placed Geraldine Kilgallon who herself was only one ahead of Mary Conlon in third with a 35. The youth competition was won by Audrey Holian who hit a 31.
This weekend’s competition is a stroke competition sponsored by Ted and Marian Gormally, Hennelly’s Bar, Manulla. The winners will gain points in the Golfer of the Year competition.
The scramble competition was won by the team of Patricia Nestor, Audrey Holian, and Liam Timmiss. Second place went to the trio of Marie Flanagan, Stephen Minogue, and Seamus Cleary, with the bronze medal going to Aodan MacSuibhne, Don Dillon, and Tina Joyce.
Ballyhaunis
Last weekend’s competition was won by Martin Keane who scored 39pts off 19. In second place was Peter O’Toole who also scored 42pts off a handicap of 22. Shane Freeman came third on 41pts playing off 6. The ladies’ section was won by Jenny Glynn who scored 39pts, with Marietta Potgeiter coming in second place with 37pts, the same score as third placed Mary F Cleary. The junior section was won by Padraig Cunnane on 42pts.
Claremorris
Last weekend’s competition saw John Cadden win the men’s section with a score of 38 points, with the Catt 1 section going to Francis Gavin. Michael McNamara took the Catt 2 section and Tom Kelly the Catt 3 competition. The ladies’ competition was won by Riana Kean with 40pts, Patrica Prendergast on 35 pts came second, and Mary Walsh came third.
Congratulations to Claremorris GAA Club who won the FBD All Ireland Golf Club Championship at Faithleag Golf Club last weekend. The quartet of Des Griffith, Martin ‘Tar’ Higgins, Ger Noone, and Mick Conway won the title by a huge margin of 15 points.
The pairing of Griffith and Higgins had a combined score of 42 points in the first round, with Noone and Conway scoring 40 points. Both pairings really rose to the occasion in the second round, with Griffith and Higgins returning 46 points, and Noone and Conway surpassing that score with 48 points. This was phenomenal scoring as the pairings were required to play off three quarters of their handicap.
