A Polish woman who displayed an insurance disc not belonging to her vehicle, and has no insurance of her own, was disqualified from driving for two years and convicted and fined a total of €1,000 at Castlebar District Court this week.
Garda John Gallagher stopped an Opel Astra being driven by Magdalena Osipinska, 40 Cavendish Lane, Castlebar, on April 19 on the Turlough road.
The defendant had an insurance disc belonging to what she claimed is her mother’s vehicle displayed and to date no insurance has been purchased in Osipinska’s name.
Judge Mary Devins asked the defendant why she does not obey the rules of the road in Ireland, to which the defendant replied that she does not understand English. Judge Devins said that Osipinska has a clear attitude problem and the court heard how the defendant has previous road traffic convictions.
Osipinska, who is a cleaner in the hospital, was convicted and fined €750 for having no insurance and disqualified from driving for two years. For displaying a false insurance disc, the defendant was convicted and fined €250 and disqualified from driving for one year concurrent.
