A man who overtook a line of traffic and crashed into a right turning car was convicted of careless driving at Castlebar District Court this week.
Michal Dowgiallo , 27 Meadow Court, Elm Park, Claremorris, who represented himself, pleaded guilty to the charge.
On January 3 this year at 2.30pm gardaí were called to a traffic accident on the N60, outside Balla village, where Dowgiallo had overtaken a line of traffic and crashed into a right turning car driven by a Ms Kathleen Chambers, which resulted in her car being spun around. Ms Chambers sustained injuries to her head and shoulder.
Judge Mary Devins asked why a dangerous driving charge was not brought against the defendant as he could have “killed several people” that day.
The defendant, who has no previous convictions, was convicted and fined €500 and was ordered to pay €150 for witness expenses.
