Flynn assured by Taoiseach that N5 is a priority

An Taoiseach Brian Cowen has expressed positive assurance to Mayo Fianna Fáil TD Beverley Flynn that the Government is fully aware of the importance of the N5. The Taoiseach told the Fianna Fáil deputy that he and the Minister for Transport would do everything possible to help maintain jobs and develop manufacturing opportunities in the west.

Dep Flynn spoke to the Taoiseach with the Mayo Industrial Group on the need to improve the stretch of the N5 between Mayo and Longford as “four major manufacturers in Mayo employ 3,000 people directly and 6,000 indirectly whose financial wellbeing depends on getting their goods to market speedily, safely and with the minimum overheads”.

The Taoiseach told Dep Flynn that “Minister Dempsey has made it clear that the N5 route would receive priority in the allocation of resources in the context of the completion of the Major Inter Urban Motorway programme by 2010.”
