Fine Gael leader Deputy Enda Kenny has condemned those responsible for dumping rubbish at the graveyard beside Lough Lannagh. The dumping is taking place at the weekends and has occurred twice over the past fortnight. The Mayo TD visited the area last Saturday morning to see the damage for himself and assisted in the clean-up with Councillor Ger Deere and Mr Ernie Sweeney.
“I found it an outrage that someone has lowered themselves to dumping rubbish illegally in a graveyard of all places,” Dep Kenny said. “I felt so strongly about the issue that a group of us starting clearing the material rather than waiting until Monday for it to be taken away by the council. The narrow road surrounding the graveyard was obstructed with the rubbish including two tyres and could have caused a traffic accident.”
