A musician in Mayo has written a song in a bid to save the scenic countryside from the adverse visual impact on the landscape by a 80ft high telecommunications mast.
Mr Tom O’Toole’s song, ‘Lakes and Plains’, highlights the destruction of the skyline by the erection of communication masts and raised the question is a fast buck worth such a loss. The musician was inspired to put pen to paper when he learned of the proposed erection of a 80ft mast in the townlands of Furance, Partry in the sensitive landscape between Lough Mask and Lough Carra.
“I am not against the delivery of broadband to the countryside but quite the opposite. I think it is as important to our lives as the roads we drive for business to develop but what I do oppose is the destruction of our scenic countryside with erection of these towering masts. Surely broadband can be delivered as is done in other countries by fibre optic cable saving our countryside,” Mr O’Toole said. You can hear the song by clicking onto www.cloonee.com
