Mayo County Council worker convicted of drink driving

A general operative with Mayo County Council who hit a parked van after coming from the pub where he had a few drinks on his way home from work, was disqualified from driving for three years at Bemullet District Court this week.

Kieran Carey, Glencullen Lower, Bangor, Erris collided with a parked van at Atlawalla, Bangor, Erris on November 10 last year at 5.25pm. After being arrested for drink driving a subsequent blood analysis showed 249mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood.

Defending solicitor Samantha Geraghty said that the 41-year-old man, who resides with his parents, was going through a difficult period in his life when the incident occurred.

Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined Carey €600 and disqualified him from driving for three years.
