Over €300 worth of drugs found in house

A 20-year-old man who had €347 worth of cannabis in his possession in his family home was before Ballina District Court on Tuesday.

Detective Garda Sinead Caheny outlined that a search warrant was executed on the family home of Colin Conmy, Carrowcushlawn, Ballina on December 30 2008 at 8.30pm. The defendant handed over all cannabis in his possession, which was for his own use.

John Gordon, who represented the defendant, said that the man’s parents had no idea that their son used drugs and that this shock to the family has put the man off using drugs.

Judge Mary Devins commended the man on being employed, with reduced working hours, and said that she would like to “put him on a pedestal” as he is unlike a lot of others who come in here and are “getting twice the amount” from the State. The judge applied the Probation Act.
