The Linenhall is set for a very special night when gifted young singer Elaine Madden gives her debut headlining performance at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Thursday September 17 at 8pm.
Castlebar-born singing sensation Elaine Madden has the ability and vocal maturity to portray emotions in songs which belie her young years, and her reputation as a talented vocalist has been steadily growing both in musical circles and among the general public. This will be Elaine’s debut headlining performance, and she will be accompanied by her friend and musical associate, pianist and harpist Marese O'Hora. Elaine and Marese have performed together since their days in secondary school, and their resulting musical rapport is clearly evident. Elaine will draw on all her musical influences to ensure a concert of many genres of music including soul, country, Irish and songs from musicals, an eclectic mix not to be missed from a young talent in the ascendant. Impressions of Bofin book launch
Today (Friday September 11 ) sees the launch of Impressions of Bofin, a collection of writings resulting from writing workshops that have taken place on Inishbofin with writer and teacher Jean Tuomey since 2002 through the Linenhall Arts Centre’s workshop programme. Edited by Geraldine Mitchell, Impressions of Bofin features prose and poetry by 15 participants, some of whom will be reading at the launch. Copies of Impressions of Bofin are available for €10, and all profits from sales go towards community projects taking place on Inishbofin.
Impressions of Bofin will be launched at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Friday September 11 at 7.30pm by Helen Falconer, author of Primrose Hill and Sky High, two novels that have been published in both the UK and US. Admission is free, and all are welcome,
Impressions of Bofin will also be launched at the Doonmore Hotel on Inishbofin by Marie Farrell on Saturday September 19 at 6pm.
Angie Grimes exhibition at the Linenhall
Coast, an evocative exhibition of oil paintings by Angie Grimes, continues at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar for the month of September.
Coast is inspired by Ireland’s coastline and drawn from locations in Kerry, Mayo, Donegal, and North Co. Dublin. According to the Co Dublin artist, “The work is executed in thick impasto and depicts, I hope, the glorious wonders of the ever-changing vista of our coast and shore.” The Linenhall Gallery is open to the public Monday to Friday from 10am to 5pm, Saturday from 11am to 5.30pm. Admission to exhibitions is free.
An invitation to take a stand
The Linenhall Arts Centre is inviting voluntary arts organisations in the Castlebar area to take a stand in the Linenhall Foyer on Culture Night on Friday September 25 from 6pm to 10pm. This will be a great opportunity to highlight your organisation, give out information and even sign up new members. Stands are free, but pre-booking is essential.
