Keith Duffy to meet Jordan — the inspiration behind Reek challenge

Boyzone star Keith Duffy, the patron for Irish Autism Action, will be on a tour of Mayo today (Friday ) where he will meet Jordan Kearns, the young boy who was the inspiration behind the hugely successful Croagh Patrick Seven Day in a Row Challenge.

The Boyzone crooner will launch the fourth annual challenge which takes place from March 11 to 17 2010 as part of his visit.

Mr Duffy’s tour will start with a visit to St Patrick’s Boy’s National School in Castlebar where Jordan is a pupil. At around 1pm he will meet Jordan and his friends at St Patrick’s. From there Mr Duffy will travel to Kiltimagh where he will officially open the ABA school before heading to SuperValu, Castlebar for a meet and greet session starting at approximately 4pm.

At 6.30pm the autism patron will be back in Castlebar at the Welcome Inn Hotel where he will launch the 2010 fourth annual challenge before an awards achievement ceremony at 8pm to honour the people who participated in this year’s challenge. Eighty-four people completed the seven days out of a total of over 2,000 climbers, and over 2,300 who were involved either as climbers or volunteers were fed at the Reek during the seven days, thanks to the generosity of SuperValu.

The CEO of Irish Autism Action Kevin Whelan will accompany Mr Duffy throughout the day which will culminate with the handing over of the proceeds of this year’s challenge at 8.15pm. First money raised in Mayo will be presented to the Autism representatives and then money raised by climbers from outside the county will be handed over.

The awards ceremony, which is a ticket only event, will commence at 8pm sharp.
