Billy Gallagher won the Captain’s Prize (Oliver Moran ) at Balla Golf Club last Sunday with a score of 108. Enda Holian came home in second place with a score of 109, with Liam Timmins taking third place with a final score of 112. Jim Rodgers finished the competition in fourth place also on a score of 112, with Luke Timmiss taking fifth place in the competition with a score of 114. The gross prize was won by Dermot MacMahon, with Stephen Minogue the top scorer on the first 18 and Fentan Barrett taking the prize for the second 18. The Past Captain’s Prize was won by Patsy Burke, with Martin O’Boyle and Aodan MacSuibhne sharing the beginner’s prize. The visitors’ prize was also shared by Michael Murray and Ger Moran.
The presentation was held in Mannion Bar on Sunday night, with Noel Lavin providing the catering expertise in the club over the competition. There was also a scramble competition held over the weekend, with the team of Jerry Herny, John O’Connor, and Patricia Larkin in first place. Second place went to Aodan MacSuibhne, Dermot MacMahon, and Pat Tully. The final podium place went to Enda Holian, Noel Healy, and John Walsh.
Claremorris
Last weekend’s CBE day saw Noel Grier win out with 43 points, with the Cat 1 prize being won by James Prendergast, who scored 38 points, and the Cat 2 section going to Frank Costello, while the Cat 3 win was claimed by Pat Connaughton on 38 points.
The John Keane Scratch Cup saw Joe Lyons (Galway Golf Club ) win the gross prize with a score of 71. Second in the gross went to David Scully 73 (Galway Golf Club ). The nett competition was won by Jason Cullen with a 71 (Tuam Golf Club ); second place in the nett competition went to Derek Basquille who scored a 72.
The reconvened President’s Prize (Mary Colohan ) will be played on Saturday and Sunday next September 5 and 6.
The race night, which was held in the Western Hotel on Friday night, was a resounding success. The club would like to thank the hotel, the organisers, sponsors, all who bought horses, and anyone that helped in any way to make the event the success it was. The club extends good wishes to the Jimmy Carroll team who will take part in the All-Ireland final at Westmanstown Golf Club on Monday next September 7.
Ballyhaunis
Neil Lyons was the winner of the junior section of the stroke competition with a score of 72 off 19. The ladies’ competition was won by Breege Folliard who scored a 76 off 36, the same score as Nuala Fitzgerald who was playing off 28 and who finished the round in second place. Anne Freeley was in third place with a 78 off 12 and the gross prize went to Kung Fanning with a score of 88 of 11.
The gents’ competition was won by Michael Horan, who scored a 63 off 20, and was only one ahead of Aidan Fitzmaurice, who came second with a 64 off 13. Dermot Finnegan came third with a 67 off 16 and John Burke won the gross prize with a 70 off 7.
