Castlebar couple James and Siobhan Murray have created 10 new jobs with the launch of Murray Ambulance Service Ltd.
This new front line emergency ambulance service will be crewed by fully qualified ambulance practitioners registered by the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council. The service, which was launched on July 1, will operate seven days a week 52 days a year and will see up to 10 new jobs being created over the next 12 months.
Murray Ambulance Service is a new private ambulance company which has arrangements in place with most of the private health insurers to carry their members as well as being open to the carriage of self paying clients. The most common use of a private ambulance service is carrying private patients from one hospital to another for further investigation or treatments. It is also possible that health insurance companies would cover the cost of an ambulance from your home to a hospital provided you are being admitted to the hospital. Because a private ambulance company does not have a commitment to responding to 999 emergencies it can guarantee your arrival in time for your appointment.
Managing director James Murray has enjoyed a very successful career in both public and private ambulance services spanning 24 years and he brings that experience to this project.
Murray Ambulance Service has also forged links with the Galway Clinic and has become its number one choice of ambulance service. This can be particularly useful for patients who need to access Galway Clinics fast ER service which is an A&E department that opens seven days a week.
Should your family member be an in-patient at another facility and need an ambulance to go to the Galway Clinic for tests or procedures, then Galway Clinic is recommending the use of Murray Ambulance Service as its preferred provider as all arrangements can then be co-ordinated in-house.
James Murray said he was confident this new service would be welcomed by the hard pressed staff in the HSE as a relief to the pressure on their resources. It is envisaged that most of the people using the service will be covered by private health insurance, however as every insurer is different and some of the people may not be covered by insurance it may be that the patient will self pay and in that case the rate can be quoted in advance.
