The successful talent show Bands on the Run is back with a bang and is creating is quite a stir around the Connacht area.
The competition which has a €1,000 prize fund, is for up and coming bands and is staged in the Comet Night Club, Claremorris, every Friday at 9.30pm.
Three bands compete each week, with the winning band going through to a place in the semifinal.
The winning band is adjudicated by a panel from the music industry and is marked on musical ability, stage presence, entertainment value, and audience reaction.
The bands that have been successful to date are The Drunken Monkeys, Kiltimagh; Hueso, Knockmore and Foxford; and Kashmir, Kiltimagh. The young bands Metronobe from Claremorris and Intervention from Kiltimagh put on great displays and are deemed for future success.
Silver Circus from Claremorris are the current title holders and since their win in 2005 they have gone from strength to strength playing to packed halls around Ireland. They have supported Declan O’Rourke in the Black Box, Galway, and are in constant demand for functions.
