Mayo SPCA is appealing this week for a home for Cody, a young, fairly large male dog, who is neutered, healthy, and had his first vaccination. He has a lovely temperament, is house trained, very obedient for his age, and excellent on recall, walks well on a lead although needs reminding not to pull from time to time, loves other dogs and playing with them. Because of his size they are looking for a home with older children as he could easily knock toddlers off their feet when playing ball, etc. He would also be an ideal companion pet for anyone living alone.
Mayo SPCA is still desperately in need of homes for cats/kittens and dealing with so many cases of abandonment such as the ones shown here, they were dumped on Bartra Beach and using the public toilets for shelter. Every day the association is swamped with calls to take kittens and is just not able to take in any more until homes are found for the ones already in their care.

It is with great sadness that Mayo SPCA advises everyone who supported the rescued Shetland pony, Willow, that she lost her struggle for recovery on Sunday August 9 and is no longer with us. “We thank all those who gave contributions towards her veterinary expenses, sent letters, and called us enquiring about her. Willow had the heart of a lion and the nature of a lamb but eventually declined rapidly over the preceding five days. Every treatment available was given to her and she suffered no pain but could not get up and lost the use of her rear legs. We console ourselves that she did not die cold, hungry, and afraid at the bottom of the 14-foot boghole she was thrown into. We will all miss and remember her,” a Mayo SPCA spokesperson said.
