On Saturday September 20 Midwest Radio will broadcast a new 12-part series of programmes entitled Kool Kidz which is aimed at four to 12-year-olds across the Connacht region.
The hour-long programme will be presented by Brendan Roache and will feature contributions from national school students around Mayo with the emphasis of the programme being education through entertainment.
The mainstay of the programme will be a 20-minute feature entitled “The remarkable adventures of Spike the Hedgehog”, a dramatised story for radio that aims to give young listeners a unique understanding of their native wild mammals and the habitat in which they live.
Spike the Hedgehog — along with a complement of numerous other characters – will travel the highways and byways of Mayo to meet up with the enclave of feral goats at Mulranny, the otters on Ballina’s ridgepool, the various species of bats throughout the county, the red squirrels at Belleek wood, the variety of deer species that reside in the Partry mountains and many other locations where animals have stories to tell and adventures to share with Spike.
The programme will be broadcast each Saturday morning at 9am.
