Kenny welcomes Davitt College sports hall announcement

Fine Gael Leader Enda Kenny TD has welcomed the announcement that the Department of Education and Science have made a commitment on the long overdue Davitt College Sports Hall. The announcement was made following a meeting between the Education Minister and a delegation involved with the project from the college.

The Fine Gael Leader is aware of previous commitments that were given by the Minister’s predecessor, however, in this particular case, the commitment of the Minister is official and will go ahead. The project has been a political football for the past 30 years and finally significant progress has been reached.

Deputy Kenny said: “This sports hall has been put on the long finger for the past 30 years and is long overdue. The students, parents and staff of the college and indeed myself have campaigned long and hard on this matter, I am happy to see our efforts have paid off. I have raised this issue numerous times and placed countless Parliamentary Questions to the Minister and his predecessors. Ideally, if the Minister keeps his word, the project should be allowed to commence before the end of the year.”
