This September (Sunday 28 ) will see the first National Trails Day which is taking place across the country with everyone being encouraged to get out and hit a trail near you!
Two free events have been organised for Mayo — one in Carrowteige, north Mayo (a coastal walk which continues until you reach a clifftop ) and the other is the Lettermaghera Loop Walk (this trail takes you north along a narrow lane and around a maze of small lakes until you reach Furnace Lough, home to one of the biggest marine research stations in Europe ).
For the Carrowteige walk pre-registration will take place in the Seanscoil Carrowteige from 2pm with the event taking place at 2.30pm to 4.30pm, while for the other event please meet in Derrada Community Centre, Newport at 10am for a walk which will last two hours. Both walks will suit all family members; children must be accompanied.
