American wrestling in Mayo

Castlebar welcomes the American Wrestling Rampage (AWR ) tour in August. This will delight both young and older fans who get to see some of the best guys in the wrestling circuit show off their talents in the Royal Theatre arena. The last time that a wrestling show came to the Royal Theatre in October 2008 the demand for tickets was huge and the hunger for another show was the reason that Pat Jennings is bringing back the American Rampage Tour.

Since AWR first went on the road in March 2008, such mega stars as Chris “Masters” Mordetzky, formerly of the WWE, The Original Vampire Warrior, Gangrel, The Extreme Maniac Sabu, former WWE champion Rob Van Dam, The late, great Andrew “Test” Martin, and even the legendary Bret “Hitman” Hart have all appeared under the AWR flag among other wrestling mega stars.

While AWR can boast some of the biggest names in the business, the group also serves up some of the hottest prospects for the future of the industry including high-flying dare-devils such as Shawn Maxer, The Suicide Machine, and Dunkan Disorderly. These youngsters are sure to be huge stars in the wrestling business in the years to come and AWR is proud to be able to give them the opportunity to showcase their jaw-dropping talent inside the ring.

The line up in August is sure to be a crowd pleaser with the fans with the likes of Rob Van Dam, Sabu, Chris Masters, Scotty the Hotty, Rene Du Pree, Suicide Machine, Sean Maxer, Joey Cabrey, Delicious Dunky D, Paul Tracey, and more big names to be announced for the Castlebar Show.

Rob Van Dam is the one to watch this August, weighing in at 235 pounds, all 6ft of him will be taking to the ring in order to prove why he is indeed one of the best professional wrestlers of his time. His signature move the five-star frog splash, Van Daminator leaves the best of us in awe and with as many career hightlights as Rob Van Dam has had it is hard not to be spellbound by him in the ring.

Rob Van Dam can do things that no other wrestler can do, has done or ever will do. Also known as The Whole F’n Show, fans feel seeing RVD wrestle is well worth the price of the ticket. Rob Van Dam’s one of a kind offensive arsenal includes rolling thunder, the van daminator, and the mind-blowing van terminator.

Distinguishing himself from other wrestlers by exhibiting his martial arts skills and uncanny flexibility, RVD first gained fame inside the squared circle of ECW. Rob Van Dam and Sabu were both trained by Sabu’s uncle, The Sheik, and had a tenuous relationship that resulted in an epic extreme battle with one another and two ECW world tag team championship reigns.

At one time, Rob Van Dam was a co-holder of the ECW World Tag Team Championship and The ECW World Television Champion simultaneously. He held the ECW World Television Championship for a record-breaking 23 months. His reign ended only because Rob Van Dam broke his ankle and was forced to relinquish the championship.

On the world premiere of ECW on Sci Fi on June 13, 2006, ECW representative Paul Heyman finally awarded Rob Van Dam with the ECW Championship that had eluded him for more than 10 years. Rather than dropping the WWE Championship, RVD chose to wear both belts because the ECW World Title is the greatest achievement in his career, and WWE Championship amuses him because “it spins”.
