Following what was for most a fairly dismal Bank Holiday Monday, Boylesports is getting behind the IrelandDeservesSun.ie campaign and are offering odds of 10/1 for the country to have 10 consecutive dry days in August. Ireland to have the hottest day on record before the end of the month is 7/1.
The quirky weather-based campaign, created by Sandtex Exterior Paints, was put in place as a social media networking outlet for Irish people desperate for good weather this summer.
Boylesports is offering 9/1 on the campaign to fail and for rain to fall every day in August. While the pitch in Croke Park withstood U2, the chances of any of the football or hurling All Ireland Championship matches being called off due to rain is 20/1. Odds of 6/1 are also being offered for a thunderstorm to take place over the iconic stadium during any of these games.
Nicola McGeady, entertainment spokesperson for Boylesports, said: “The weather is probably the most talked about topic in Ireland. When it’s good people are in great form but unfortunately it hasn’t been the case for the previous two summers and July 2009 was the wettest month on record so hopefully, with the help of IrelandDeservesSun.ie, it will pick up in August. We would be delighted to pay out on 10 days of consecutive sunshine in August if it made everyone happy.”
