Fine for public order disturbance in Castlebar

A man who was arrested for his own safety as he was intoxicated in a public area of Castlebar during the day was convicted and fined €120 in Castlebar District Court on Wednesday.

Garda Gerard Dillon outlined to the court that on September 14 at 5pm gardaí received a call about a disturbance in the Castle Street Car Park. Upon arrival

Ilmaras Navickas, with a listed address of 58 Bellview Heights, New Ross, Co Wexford, was among four others who were drinking in public. Bottles of vodka were confiscated by gardaí and they were asked to leave the vicinity. The defendant, who was intoxicated, was then observed being helped up off the ground and continued to be assisted when walking along Spencer Street where there were a large number of people in the area as well as a lot of traffic. Navickas was then arrested at 5.10pm for his own safety and conveyed to Castlebar Garda Station.

The defendant, who was not in court, was convicted and fined by Judge Mary Devins.
