Are you up for some serious fun?

Details have just been announced of the 2009 Mayo News/Mayo Sports Partnership Team Challenge taking place as part of the Westport Festival of Sport Fun Day on Sunday August 23 at the Mall area in Westport. The challenge is in its fourth year and the organisers, Mayo Sports Partnership co-ordinator Charlie Lambert, GMIT lecturer in outdoor education Kevin O’Callaghan, and director of Achill Outdoor Adventure Centre Tim Daly, promise a challenging event full of fun and intrigue for all.

Teams of six will compete in a fun adventure challenge centred around the town which will encompass both physical and mental challenges. The event is open to anyone over 18 and there must be a least two males and two females amongst the team of six.

Over the last three years teams from sporting and social organisations, family teams, and company teams participated in what provided fantastic entertainment for all who were there on the day.

The challenge takes place at 3pm and people of all abilities will be able to participate. To enter your team for the event contact the Mayo Sports Partnership Office on 094 904 7025 to register.

Many other activities will be taking place from 1pm to 5pm on Sunday August 23 as part of the Westport Festival of Sport Fun Day, including the Family Fun Activity Challenge (12 different sports ), water sports, street orienteering, Nordic walking, traditional games including road bowling, a fun 5km run run/walk and much more. To add spice to the occasion the 2FM Roadcaster will be at the festival with Larry Gogan bringing his afternoon show from the Mall.

The event will be free and is supported by local sporting/community organisations, Westport Town Council, Westport Chamber of Commerce, Mayo Sports Partnership, Westport Family Resource Centre, Destination Westport, GMIT Castlebar, Mayo VEC and many more. While the activities will be mainly free and any monies that are raised through donations or entry fees will go to the Cove Youth Centre to enable them to continue their worthwhile work.
