Town council foresight sees extra funding available for Ballina projects

The foresight of the members and executive of Ballina Town Council in planning ahead for major social and economic projects for the town was lauded by the elected members at their monthly meeting this week. The elected members were told by Town Manager Paddy Mahon that the Town Council had received correspondence from the Border Midlands and Western regional authority (BMW ) to inform them that €1.4 million had been made available to the town for environmental, economic and social projects in the town as long as the local authority came up with 40 per cent of the matching funding for the project.

Mr Mahon said they have until August 20 to make their application with a potential €2.3 million available (including matching local funding ).

Mr Mahon said it was up to Ballina Town Council to apply and recommendations would be taken from the elected members.

Fianna Fáil Cllr Francis McAndrew proposed that the Clark collection and the Arts Centre be put to the top of the list when the applications are being put forward by the Town Council.
