The Dragon Boat Race which took place on the River Moy in Ballina last Sunday drew in a large crowd to view an amazing spectacle, where teams from all over the county competed for the John Hogan Trophy.
The first semi-final saw MacHale Engineering (Ballinrobe ) see off the challenge of Baxter and Charles River Laboratories, while the second semi final saw last year’s winners Hollister lose narrowly to a team from the Ballina Boat Owner’s Club — the Sexy Sailors. The final was a tough battle with very little separating the teams, until the final 50 metres where MacHale Engineering outclassed the local favourites.
Lagan watersports in Belfast provided the boats, lifejackets and helmsmen, which ensured that the event was run safely.
