Castlebar and Mayo look forward to a Summer of Music as The World Fleadh Kicks off on Friday July 31 2009 and runs to Saturday August 8. With a host of venues including The Royal Theatre, Linenhall Theatre, The Welcome Inn Hotel, GMIT and many bars around the town this Fleadh is sure to draw the crowds. Féile in the Mall on Saturday August 1 is sure to bring out families and friends to enjoy the festival atmosphere that Castlebar has longed for. The fun will kick off on Friday July 31 when Heidi Talbot and John McCusker get things under way at 8pm in the Linenhall. The Saw Doctors will have things rocking in the Royal Theatre later that evening, at what is sure to be a sell out show. Féile on the Mall will have lots of family fun and entertainment on the Mall from midday until 6pm.
The Ireland Music Awards will take centre stage that evening in the Royal Theatre, with music from The High Kings, Sharon Shannon and more from 8pm. Carmina will be taking to the stage in the intimate surrounds of the Linenhall. While a special late show with Damien Dempsey, Dessie O’Halloran, Sharon Shannon with her big band and Shane McGowan will bring things to a close in the Royal Theatre from 9.30pm in the Royal Theatre.
August 2 sees the David Munnelly band take to the stage at 8pm in the Linenhall, while down the down in the Royal Theatre, Moving Hearts will be tearing it up on the main stage in the Royal Theatre that night also. While your late night entertainment will be provided by the Pauline Scanlon band in the Ruby Club and Crooked Still in the Linenhall.
Bank Holiday Monday August 3 will see a double bill of Cherish the Ladies and Eddie Reader in the Royal Theatre at 8.30pm. Mary Black will keep the Fleadh moving on Tuesday August 4 in the Royal Theatre, while Seamus Begley will bring the evening to a close with a show in the Ruby Club at 11.30pm.
A memorable night will be in store on Wednesday August 5 when De Dannan and Frankie Gavin tear up the Royal Theatre in what promises to be a memorable show. Thursday August 6 sees more awards with the Irish Country Music Awards taking place in the Royal Theatre, with Randy Travis, Mike Denver, Margo, Georgette Jones, Hal Ketchem and Jimmy Buckley all taking to the stage during the awards. After the awards there will be dancing with Mike Denver from midnight to 2am. While Jeff Tuttle will have them rocking in the Ruby Club from 11.30pm.
Following on from his appearance at the awards the previous night, Randy Travis will be taking to the stage in the Royal Theatre again on the Friday night for his own concert. With Jimmy Buckly providing the dancing from 12pm to 2am after Randy Travis on the main stage with Jeff Tuttle in the Ruby Club. The curtain will come down on the Fleadh with Martina McBride kicking things off in the Royal Theatre on Saturday August 8, followed by late dancing in the same venue with The Outlaws.
