While outlining the application status of planning applications in the town of Westport at the monthly meeting of Westport Town Council last week, one application for a development at Quarry Lane, The Quay, led councillors to voice their observations.
Thomas Joyce and Sons Ltd have sought planning permission to construct four detached houses with associated site works at Quarry Lane, accessed off Quay Hill.
Councillors Mulroy and Adams said that the development should not be accessed via the Quay down a lane, as an expensive bridge was built on the Lenanne Road, against fierce opposition, in order to access such future developments.
Cllr Mulroy said this development would be “an act of vandalism” on the Quarry Lane area. Cllr Tereasa McGuire commented that it is a “terrible betrayal of what is pure and good in the town” that of a “rural enclave in urban setting”.
