A man who was involved in a fracas with a family member outside a party for a child’s Communion was before Ballina District Court this week.
On May 22 this year, after 9pm, Garda Pat McCann received reports of a dispute outside a residence in the Ballina area. On arriving at the scene of the home of Thomas Lawrence, 71 Cluain Na Rí, Ballina, Gda McCann noticed two men, who were intoxicated, fighting. According to the garda about 20 children witnessed the brawl.
Defending solicitor Michael Bohan said that the defendant, who has no previous convictions, got into “fisticuffs on the green” after a first cousin’s son came uninvited to the Communion celebrations and, when asked to leave, refused.
Judge Mary Devins directed that Lawrence pay €200 to the Mayo Roscommon Hospice.
