Hopes of safe return of kidnapped GOAL worker

The Mayo relatives of kidnapped GOAL worker Sharon Commins from Clontarf in Dublin have received a sliver of hope with reports that Irish officials have contacted her. News reports yesterday (Thursday ) said there was a chance that Ms Commins and her Ugandan colleague Hilda Kawuki, who were abducted by armed men last Friday, could be released shortly.

Sharon’s father was originally from Aghamore where her grandmother Mary Delia Commins still resides. She also has relatives in Bekan who are all praying for her safe return.

Sudan’s state news agency has said that a government source confirmed the pair are in good health and have been contacted by representatives from their home countries.

Ms Commins had been working for four years with the Irish aid agency before Friday’s tragic turn of events.

A delegation of Government officials and Ireland’s ambassador to Sudan are currently in Darfur and Khartoum for talks. Ireland’s ambassador to Uganda is meanwhile meeting foreign ministry officials in the Ugandan capital Kampala.π
