Woman swapped prices on items and paid €110 less

A woman with 33 previous convictions was before Castlebar District Court on Wednesday after she placed a €10 price sticker on a €120 pair of curtains and paid the lower amount for them.

On December 1 2008, Roseanne Sweeney, 5 Meadow Park, Castlebar, entered Shaw’s department store where she went to the drapery department and swapped two price stickers around before she paid €10 for the more expensive pair of curtains. Gardaí called to her house a number of days later where she admitted the offence.

As Sweeney was imposed with a suspended sentence by Judge Mary Fahy at Galway District Court, Judge Mary Devins could not deal with the case until the defendant appeared before Judge Fahy later that day.
