The beat goes on with the summer music series

Mayo County Council's Summer Music Series 2009 will feature eight musical performances in venues all around the county. Having got off to a magnificent start in Westport, the next instalments of musical indulgence take place in Ballina on July 9, Louisburgh on July 17 and Charlestown on July 18.

On Thursday July 9 The David Munnelly Band will perform in St Michael’s Church at 8pm. The David Munnelly Band has been entertaining American and European audiences on a regular basis since 2005; combining the famed wildness of spirit of West Mayo music with the jazz and swing rhythms of New York in the 1920’s. At the helm of the band is the “Bullet from Belmullet”, David Munnelly, who has committed himself to forging a unique sound on the traditional music circuit. The David Munnelly Band has toured the U.S., and Holland already this year, and concerts in Ireland, Italy, Spain, Denmark and England are confirmed.

On Friday July 17 at 8pm the series then moves to Louisburgh Parish Hall with music on the evening from Emer Mayock, Donal Siggins and Jean Michel Veillon. This trio came together through a Music Network Tour in 2007 and since then has continued to explore and perform Irish, Breton and newly composed repertoire. Charlestown Town Hall Arts Centre on Saturday July 18 will host The Sick and Indigent Song Club, a collection of talented musicians who play old time music dipping into a diverse range of styles including blues, country, folk, sea shanties, country gospel, Americana and bluegrass.
