A man from Ballina who stashed cannabis under coal bags outside his house was before Ballina District Court on Tuesday for possession of the drugs.
Christopher Cronin, with a listed address of 24 St Muredach’s Terrace, Ballina, was found in possession of €496 worth of cannabis on November 2 2008 after a search of his house was carried out by gardaí following confidential information received.
Cronin handed the gardaí one piece of cannabis when they called to his house and more was discovered under bags of coal.
According to solicitor Denis Molloy the defendant bought the drugs two days previously to lift his spirits.
Cronin, who has no previous convictions, was directed by Judge Mary Devins to pay €200 to Hope House and the Probation Act was applied.
