At the Dublin Athletic Board Graded meeting last week two Mayo AC vets took part in the 1500 metres race. Seamus (Jim ) Gaughan has been training back in Mayo recently and it showed as he recorded an excellent 4.57.33 in the over 55 category. His Dublin based colleague and clubmate Mick Ferry (over 60 ) also had a good run to finish 5.40.13.
In the Lisburn Half Marathon last Wednesday, Mayo AC's Robert Malseed ran a great time of 71.06 to finish second to Brian McMahon (Clonliffe Harriers ) who won in 69.00. Pauline Curley (Tullamore Harriers ) won the women's race in 76.28. On Sunday last John Byrne had his second 10k victory in a week when he won the Annaghdown 10k in a good time of 33.05 in very warm conditions. Dave Huane was seventh in 37.58. Other Mayo AC finishers were Gerry Galvin 41.32, Christy O'Malley 48.10, Sarah Syron 51.30, and Chris O'Connell 52.28. Regina Casey (GCH ) was the first woman in 39.35.
Next Saturday evening, June 27, Race 2 of the Vodafone C&C Cellular Mayo AC League is the Ballyhaunis 8k at 5pm. Registration at the Rugby Club from 3.30pm. Looking ahead, there is a four mile race at Ballindine on Sunday July 12 at 12.30pm, in support of Western Alzheimer’s. The organiser is David Huane (087 9272242 ). Participants will be required to predict their finishing time - no watches allowed. The winner will be the finisher closest to his/her predicted time. Entry €10 at Community Centre.
