Originally born in Washington DC 1983, Jennifer Evans is a self-taught musician raised in Tallaght, Co Dublin. After picking up the guitar at the age of 11 and composing songs from the age of 13 she played in various groups through her teenage years and early twenties, and her style ranged from hard rock to minimalistic folk. In the summer of 2006 she set out on a lengthy search for sharp and dedicated musicians to complement her sound. From advertisements in colleges, music rehearsal spaces, and of course through word of mouth from fellow musicians, the Ripe Intent was formed. The music she plays is definitely alternative and finds its roots in jazz, folk rock, and blues. Only last year Jennifer Evans recorded a version of the Dusty Springfield classic ‘Going Back’ which was featured on the latest ESB advertising campaign on RTE television.
Pop rock trio Mugger Dave, who hail from Galway, will be next up. They were formed in January 2007, and they quickly took to practising. The group’s collective experience shows in the tightness of their performance, with all three members knowing exactly what they want to create, a hard-hitting rock band, with catchy feel-good melodies reminiscent of The Kinks, underlined by driving bass lines and a heavy no-nonsense drumbeat. In November of 2007 Mugger Dave released their debut EP. Girly No 1, which was launched in The Cellar Bar in Galway city.
This year started solidly for the band with a growing fan base and a performance on TG4’s Síle show. Their song ‘My Life in Circles’ was featured on the IMRO Showcase CD which was distributed nationally with the Daily Star newspaper. The band are preparing for the release of their debut LP What’s She Doing Here?
Headline act on the night will come from one of the best hard rock outfits in Ireland right now, 21 Outs. 21 Outs is Philip Cassidy, Ben Parker, and Julien Parpet, the Galway based band was formed by singer/songwriter Philip Cassidy in July 2007.
