Judge asks man if he wants to go home like ET

A Lithuanian man who said he just wanted to go home was this week asked by Judge Mary Devins in Claremorris District Court, “You want to go home like ET?” Ricardis Belickes, 38 Ashling Drive, Ballyhaunis, replied “No, I want to go home to Ballyhaunis.”

Belickes was in court after he failed to give a blood or urine sample in Claremorris Garda Station after being arrested on suspicion of drink driving by Garda Ciaran McGrath on June 13 2009. The court was told that Belickes had a number of previous driving convictions and was serving a driving ban arising out of convictions for a hit and run, dangerous driving, and drink driving in November 2008 at the time he was arrested. Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined Belickes €1,000, banned him from driving for 10 years and sentenced him to three months in prison.
