A Claremorris man who was caught drink driving after a three week drinking session as he tried to cope with the loss of his business, was banned from driving for two years at Claremorris District Court this week. Edward Killeen of Kilbeg, Claremorris, pleaded guilty to the charge in court.
Garda Colman told the court that on January 11 2009 at 6.05am he arrested Killeen at Mayfield, Claremorris, on suspicion of drunk driving and brought him to Claremorris Garda station where Killeen gave a urine sample which returned a reading of 171mg of alcohol per 100ml of urine.
The court was told that Killeen was going through a bad time after losing his business and was drinking for three weeks solid at the time, but has since attended Hope House and is currently attending AA. The court was also asked that the ban not be imposed until August 1 and Killeen gave an undertaking to the court that he would not drink and drive during that time. He was also fined €750.
