Balla man who had name on his number plates convicted

A plumber from Balla whose front and rear number plates were obstructed and did not conform to standard was before Castlebar District Court this week.

Garda John Daly said that at 9.45am on January 22 he stopped the transit van of Paul Walsh, Ardboley North, Balla, in the Breaffy area. Garda Daly noted that the letters were too small on the number plates; the EU symbol was not displayed and the defendant’s name was printed on both number plates. The front plate was obstructed by bullbars and a ladder was obstructing the rear number plate.

In November last year, Garda Daly cautioned Walsh to remove the bullbars.

Walsh told the court that he failed to take such action since November as he has been busy with work. The defendant claimed that a garage in Castlebar printed his name on the number plates and also fitted the bullbars and that when the van went for the NCT this was not brought to his attention.

Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined Walsh €75.
