Protect Our Dunes Campaign Roadshow In Bertra And Keel

Mayo County Council in association with the Climate Action Regional Office and in collaboration with several partners, are running an awareness campaign to highlight the importance and fragility of sand dune systems as a natural costal protection and important habitats.

As part of this campaign, two roadshows will be held at two beaches in Mayo during the month of August. The first of these will take place this Saturday, August 12th at Bertra Beach and the second on Sunday, August 27th at Keel Beach in Achill.

The event on Saturday in Bertra will get underway with registration from 10am to 10.30am. Then from 10.30am to 11.30am the event will kick off with a Family Seashore Safari, where you can explore all the marine life living right on our shores and learn about what we can do to protect them and the dunes.

This will be followed by a family sand dune building activity from 11.30am to 12.30pm, where you will build your own sandcastle using sand and then seaweed learning in a creative way how to protect the castle from the elements.

The road show will wrap up with a questions and answers sessions from 12.30pm to 1pm with marine biologists, where participants will have time to ask any questions they may have.

This is a free event, but prior registration is advised. Full details can be found below and you can register through here - https://www.leavenotraceireland.org/training-event/protect-out-dunes-roadshow-at-bertra-beach-murrisk-co-mayo/.
