Mayo Fine Gael TD Michael Ring has called on Mayo County Council to urgently complete the extension to Ballycroy Graveyard.
Deputy Ring stated: “The matter of the extension to Ballycroy Graveyard has been ongoing for a number of years. This situation is becoming increasingly more urgent. The present graveyard is close to reaching capacity
“The National Parks and Wildlife Service have made land available to Mayo County Council for an extension to Ballycroy Graveyard. There are ESB lines in the land. Mayo County Council were to fund the removal of same. The ESB will carry out the removal of the lines but they require payment.
“It is time now that this matter was progressed. If this matter is not dealt with in a timely manner- Ballycroy will be left without a graveyard.
“I have been contacted by a number of people in relation to this extension. They are extremely concerned about the lack of progress on this matter and the apparent standstill it has come to.
“I am now calling on Mayo County Council to deal with this situation as matter of extreme urgency for Ballycroy,” concluded Deputy Michael Ring.
