Inland Fisheries re-opens the Moy
Inland Fisheries Ireland has re-opened the Moy Fishery in Mayo, which was closed to angling 10 days ago due to elevated water temperatures. Barry Fox Head of Operations at Inland Fisheries Ireland said: “We are lifting our cessation of angling protocols at the Moy and Galway fisheries. Water temperatures have reduced to appropriate levels, and when taking weather forecasts into account it is now considered appropriate to reopen both fisheries. Water temperatures and weather forecasts will continue to be monitored on both fisheries over the coming weeks.” Management at both fisheries will be contacting all anglers who have confirmed bookings over the coming days and anglers who have had fishing cancelled due to the elevated temperatures will be refunded in due course. Parents should be advised of passport delays
Mayo Fianna Fáil Senator, Lisa Chambers, has said many parents applying for first time passports for their children may not be aware that it could take up to six weeks to be approved and such information should be included as part of the Little Baby Bundle scheme. The scheme, the first of its kind in Ireland, seeks to provide valuable resources and support to new parents, acknowledging the significance of this major moment in their lives. Senator Chambers said: "The Little Baby Bundle scheme recognises the immense importance of welcoming a new life into the world and represents a significant step in ensuring that parents feel supported during the early stages of their child's life. The initiative demonstrates Fianna Fáil's commitment in Government to providing comprehensive support to new parents and promoting the well-being of both children and families. One area the scheme doesn't address however is the delays involved in processing and issuing first-time passports. It's a recurring issue and one which can result in undue stress for many parents, who may not be aware of the turnaround times. I believe it would be helpful if parents were advised and encouraged to apply for a passport when they are carrying out other tasks such as applying for a PPSN and registering the birth of the child.''
€10,000 award to Croagh Patrick Heritage Trail
Michael Ring TD has confirmed that €10,000 in funding has been approved to the Croagh Patrick Heritage Trail under the Walks Scheme. This funding will be used to reroute the trail at Knockraha with the relocation of an existing walkway bridge and drainage will be installed. Deputy Ring stated: “This funding will result in an upgrade of this very popular walking trail in Mayo namely the Croagh Patrick Heritage Trail. This funding has been allocated to boost outdoor recreation and rural tourism in Mayo. This is also part of a national initiative to improve safety on these walking trails and to protect the rural countryside. Under the Walks Scheme, funding is provided to farmers and other landholders to maintain the trails that travel through their land. Funding is also provided to local development companies for the management of the scheme and the upkeep of the trails. Walking trails are hugely important assets for a local community so it is vital that we constantly try to protect and maintain them as best we can. Outdoor recreation tourism is a growing sector and it has the potential to have major economic knock-on benefits for our rural towns and villages,” concluded Deputy Michael Ring.
