Mustangs back on the march

Castlebar's Mustangs basketball team made their comeback at the Dublin Masters tournament recently. They played three group games and their first match was against Killester from Dublin, which was a hard-fought victory for Mustangs with a score of 35-20.

In the next game, Mustangs led by Siobhan Kilkenny comfortably defeated Tyrone on a final score of 35-12. Despite some foul trouble, Mustangs managed to weather the storm and emerged victorious against Cork Cougars with a score of 47-25 in their third group game.

In the knock-out rounds the Mustangs faced Wild Rovers in the gold semi-final. The team, consisting of former Irish internationals like Lindsay Peat and Catriona White, struggled against the Mustang onslaught and the Mustangs led by five points at halftime, winning both quarters. However, they lost the third quarter and tied the fourth, resulting in a narrow 34-36 loss. The Wild Rovers went on to win the final by 15 points.

The Mustangs showcased a superb team performance for their fans, with a mix of newcomers and returning guests. Special recognition goes to newcomers Emma Brady, Anita Hoban, and Fiona Feeney, as well as guests Edel Brennan, Saoirse O'Flaherty, Marla Candon, and Laura Deeney. This weekend the Mustangs will be competing in the 6th annual Santander Masters tournament in Santander in Spain.
