Defective car lands owner in court

A 20-year-old Belmullet man who had a loud exhaust and two bad tyres was fined at Belmullet District Court this week.

Patrick Burke, Beach View House, Corclough, Belmullet, was stopped by Garda David Hanley in Corclough east on February 3 this year 5.45pm. The garda noted that the exhaust was defective and that the front and rear tyres on the left side were bald. There was no NCT or tax on the vehicle and the vehicle was impounded.

According to solicitor Aidan Crowley two new tyres were at the defendant’s home and a silencer for his exhaust had been ordered. As for not having NCT or tax, the defendant did not have a logbook for the car so could not apply for them.

The store worker was convicted and fined €250 by Judge Denis McLoughlin, the remaining summonses were taken into consideration.
