The HSE in Mayo is running an awareness campaign this month to alert people to the fact that Drugs Payment Scheme (DPS ) cards are due to expire on June 30 2009.
Currently in Mayo there are 8,500 DPS cards due to expire on June 30. The HSE is asking everyone who has a DPS card to check the expiry date on the card and, if their card is due to expire at the end of this month, make contact with the local DPS office.
The Drugs Payment Scheme is available to individuals or families, and ensures that individuals or families only have to pay a maximum of €100 per month for approved prescribed drugs, medicines, and certain appliances for use by that person or his/her family in that month.
The amount is determined from time to time by the Minister for Health and Children and is usually revised in the Budget. If you have a GP Visit Card or do not have a Medical Card, you should apply for a Drugs Payment Scheme Card.
The HSE is urging anyone whose DPS card is due to expire at the end of June to contact the local DPS office at DPS Section
