Former Inspector Mick Murray was last month promoted to the rank of Superintendent and will take up this duty in charge of Westport Garda District with effect from next Tuesday.
Supt Murray’s career with An Garda Síochána commenced in 1980 in Dublin. He was promoted to sergeant in 1993 and moved to Ballyhaunis in 1995 as duty sergeant. He took over as sergeant in charge of Castlebar Garda Station in 2002 and held this post until he was promoted to the rank of inspector in May 2003 after which he acted as superintendent in Glenties, until he was transferred back to Mayo in 2004. He returned to Castlebar in June 2007 until his new promotion.
