A man who was coming from the gym and was stopped by gardaí led to the Ballina man appearing before Belmullet District Court this week after a speed detector was observed lying on the dashboard.
John Healy, Bar na Trá, Ballina, told the court that he was oblivious to the object that was on the dashboard, as his brother had placed it there a year previously after obtaining it from America, and he did not know what it was.
Judge Denis McLoughlin directed that €200 be paid by the defendant to the Belmullet Lifeboat Association.
