Cup action on the agenda this weekend

Domestic Cup action takes centre stage across the football fields of Mayo this weekend with the first round of both the Calor Gas Super and Premier Cups taking place on Sunday.

After a couple of rounds of league action last weekend saw two Mayo sides in the fifth round of the Connacht Junior Cup, with one side progressing to the last eight and the other exiting the competition. Castlebar Celtic made their way into the next round thanks to a 2-0 win on the road against Calry Bohs with the goals coming from Colm Nevin and Luke Kelly. Manulla were no match for Galway outfit Mervue United who saw off the Carramore based side 3-1 with Darragh Byrne getting their goal.

This weekend will see seven games taking place in the Super Cup with plenty of tasty encounters lined up - two of the three sides who have won both their opening games in the Super League, Ballina Town and Kiltimagh-Knock United will square off in Belleek on Sunday at 2.30pm.

Castlebar Celtic will be looking to keep up their good start to the season when they welcome the two-time defending Super League champions Ballyheane to Celtic Park at the same time. Ballyheane will be hoping to shake off their loss at home to Conn Rangers last time out and facing into a local derby against the Hoops will give them plenty of motivation.

Westport United who have just one point from two games in the league will host a Straide and Foxford United side who haven't managed to pick up any league points to United Park on Sunday morning, another early kick off will see the all Premier Division clash between Moy Villa and Fahy Rovers in Attymass.

Super League side Glenhest Rovers will be welcoming Premier Division hopefuls Claremorris to their home patch on Sunday morning in what should be a testing encounter for both sides. Crossmolina who were promoted to the top division last term will be travelling to Station Rise to face one of the sides they passed along the way Ballyhaunis Town. The final game in the Super Cup will see Manulla look to shake off the disappointment of last weeks exit from the Connacht Junior Cup when Premier Division side Swinford come calling to Carramore.
