Mayo sports volunteers honoured with awards

Mayo Sports Partnership has extended congratulations to Deirdre Maloney, Reid Moy Davitts GAA Club, Foxford, who was named the Mayo recipient of the Irish Sports Volunteer of the Year Awards by the Federation of Irish Sports.

This year the scheme was supported by the National Network of Sports Partnerships, which led to a record entry to the competition, that rewards those who are at the coalface of Irish Sport.

Deirdre will be presented with her award by the Minister of State with responsibility for Sport and Physical Education Thomas Byrne TD at the awards ceremony on the 22nd March in the Crowne Plaza Hotel Blanchardstown and Mayo Sports Partnership extended 'Massive congratulations once again to Deirdre on her fantastic achievement'.

Mayo Sports Partnership also extends congratulations to Tuan O Hora, who received the Young Volunteer of the Year Award at the Connaught Telegraph Young Sports Stars of the Year Awards.

Paying tribute to the winning volunteers and all who volunteer in the community, Mayo Sports Partnership Head, Charlie Lambert, stated: "I am delighted to say that both the above initiatives have been supported by Mayo Sports Partnership through the outstanding work of our Sports Inclusion Development Officer Ray Mc Namara who continues to support the expansion of the Football for All & GAA for All programmes across the county.

"I am sure you agree that without volunteers we wouldn’t have sport and wouldn’t have all the fantastic days we enjoy in Mc Hale Park, Croke Park, Aviva Stadium and other sporting locations across the country."
