Ballina-based Minister of State Dara Calleary T.D. has welcomed planning permission approval for the construction of new infrastructure works at the IDA-owned site on the Sligo Road, Ballina.
Mayo County Council approved the plan this week.
Minister of State Dara Calleary said: "This is a very welcomed development in the ongoing proposal to construct a state of-the-art Business and Technology Park at the site. I have been meeting with IDA representatives on a regular basis and I am delighted the Local Authority has now approved plans for stage one works to include the construction of a new access junction onto the N59 including the provision of road markings to facilitate a right turn ghost junction, an internal road of 340 metres length of 7 metres wide carriageway, internal junctions, verges, footpaths, site services and all associated works within the 8.66 hectare site. The development will be complementary to the wider development plans for Ballina and the site, once developed, will be positioned and marketed as a suitable location for indigenous and foreign direct investment developments."
Deputy Calleary added: "Every single week I am contacted by potential businesses seeking industrial space within the Ballina area - there is an obvious need and requirement for this development and I am satisfied that the IDA and the Department are committed to constructing the park and marketing it appropriately. In respect of the planning permission itself, I am pleased that local concerns are being addressed and that air/dust management plans will be developed as part of an overall Environmental Management Plan for the development, that noise levels will be kept to a minimum, and a detailed masterplan shall consider biodiversity enhancement measures and smarter transport options.
"I look forward now to continuing to work with the IDA and Mayo County Council to deliver this project for the region,” concluded Deputy Calleary.
